?? Result: 1–6

?? Competition: Champions Cup Match

This was a tough result for the boys, but there were still plenty of positives to take from the game. The team showed some really good quality when in possession and worked hard to try and play the style of football we have been focusing on in training. While the scoreline was disappointing, the effort and moments of good football from the lads were clear to see.

In Possession

With the ball, the boys were excellent for large parts of the game. There were some really good passing sequences where the team moved the ball well across the pitch. It was especially pleasing to see how well we played out from the back, something we have been working on a lot during training sessions.

The boys showed confidence in building attacks from our goal kicks and kick-ins, and it was great to see them putting what we’ve practised into the game. This allowed us to progress up the pitch well and create some dangerous opportunities in the attacking third.

During the second half in particular, we had long periods where we controlled the game and kept the ball well. We managed to create several promising chances, but unfortunately our finishing in the final third let us down. With a little more composure and quality in front of goal, we could easily have added a few more goals to our tally. Despite this, the movement and passing from the boys were very encouraging to see.

Out of Possession

Out of possession was a little more frustrating today. At times we were just a step off the pace when it came to pressing and challenging for the ball. The opposition were a strong and physical team who competed very well in tackles, and this seemed to make us slightly hesitant in some situations.

Because of this, we were sometimes second to the ball and struggled to clear our lines when defending our goal. Being quicker to press and more aggressive in challenges will be something we continue to work on, as it is important that we match the opposition’s energy and compete strongly in those moments.

However, these games are great learning experiences for the boys and will help them continue to develop their confidence and competitiveness.

? Player of the Match – Jacob D

Jacob had an excellent game and showed great determination when competing for the ball. He worked really hard to recover possession and wasn’t afraid to put himself into challenges when needed. One of the biggest positives from his performance was his decision-making. There were several moments where he beat one or two players and then made the right choice to pass the ball rather than trying to do everything himself. This showed great awareness and teamwork, and it was brilliant to see how much he has improved this part of his game.

?? Goal: Billy

?? Assist: N/A

Me and Tom were really pleased to see how well the boys moved the ball around the pitch. The passing and movement to receive the ball were very encouraging and showed that the players are continuing to develop the style of play we are working towards.

There are lots of positives to build on, and we will keep working hard in training to keep improving.

See you all at training on Tuesday.

Thanks,

Jayden and Tom ??
