U10s Whites Match Report ??

??? Date: Sunday 20th April

?? Opponents: Heaton Mersey Vipers

?? Result: 3–3

?? Competition: MYSL League Match

An unfortunate end to the game for the boys after what was an outstanding performance, especially considering the long break we’ve had. The effort, quality, and teamwork shown throughout the match were excellent, and the lads can be very proud of how they played, even if we didn’t quite get the win in the end.

In Possession

The boys played some really lovely football from start to finish. It was great to see them come back after the break and still look sharp, confident, and eager to play the way we’ve been working on in training. In the first half, we started strongly and created a number of good chances, but at times we either couldn’t quite get our shots away or didn’t make enough contact to properly test the goalkeeper.

Going into the second half at 1–0, the boys stepped things up another level. The second half performance was fantastic arguably one of the best we’ve seen all season. We controlled the game for long periods, kept possession really well, and pinned the opposition back in their own half. The ball movement, passing, and decision-making were all excellent, and we created a huge number of chances.

We scored three very well-worked goals, all showing great quality and teamwork. Credit must go to their goalkeeper and centre-back, who both played very well and prevented us from scoring even more. On another day, we could have added several more goals, which shows just how strong our attacking play was.

Out of Possession

Without the ball, the boys defended really well. There were some strong tackles across the pitch, and the team did a great job of limiting the opposition to very few clear chances throughout the game.

At half-time, we spoke about being more aggressive and playing on the front foot when defending, and the boys responded perfectly. In the second half, our pressing was excellent, and we made it very difficult for the opposition to play out or settle into the game. We also maintained our shape very well, staying organised and working together as a team.

Unfortunately, we were a little unlucky with the goals we conceded in the second half. Both came against the run of play, with the opposition catching us on the counter-attack and taking their chances well. Despite this, the overall defensive performance was very strong and showed great improvement.

? Player of the Match – Jacob D

Jacob was phenomenal today in every aspect of the game. Defensively, he worked incredibly hard to win the ball back and showed great strength and determination in his challenges. More often than not, he came away with the ball and immediately looked to make something happen.

On the ball, his footwork was excellent, consistently beating his opponent and then making the right decision either passing to a teammate in a better position or driving forward to create an attacking threat. He capped off his performance with a well-deserved goal, striking it low and hard across goal from a wide position exactly what we want to see in that situation.

?? Goals: Sam x2, Jacob D

?? Assists: Seth x2, Raff

Me and Tom were really pleased with the boys’ performance, especially in the second half where they controlled the game brilliantly. It was frustrating not to come away with the win, but the level of performance shows just how much the team is progressing.

A fantastic effort from all the lads — keep it up!

See you all at training on Tuesday.

Thanks,

Jayden and Tom ??
