U10s Whites Match Report ??
??? Date: Sunday 1st February
?? Opponents: Macclesfield Selects
?? Result: 3β5
?? Competition: League Match
The boys are getting to grips with a new formation and the benefits are starting to show, alongside some familiar learning points.
In Possession
There was a clear improvement in our passing this week, particularly in the second half. This helped us take control of the game and create more chances. All three goals came from excellent attacking pressure β overloading the box, reacting quickly, and finishing rebounds. Brilliant forward play and great desire to get into scoring positions.
Playing out from the back is still a work in progress. At times we gave the ball away too easily from goal kicks (and from hands), largely due to our shape leaving space in central areas. This system relies on good movement to give the passer multiple options, and the boys improved with this as the game went on after we reinforced the approach. When we do it well, we break through the press and move up the pitch effectively. When we donβt, it can leave us exposed β something weβll continue working on in training.
Goalkeeper distribution and command of the box are also improving and helped us in some tight moments today. Well done, Noah.
Out of Possession
The team showed much better intensity and determination compared to last week. There was more fight across the pitch and a stronger competitive edge β a really positive step forward.
We did, however, see a pattern of conceding early in each half, with goals coming within the first couple of minutes after kick-off and the restart. This is an area Jayden and I will focus on, helping the boys improve concentration and game management at key moments.
The 1-2-2-1 formation is still new and requires continued practice, particularly in understanding positions and covering spaces when we lose the ball. This will be another focus area in training.
Overall, we were the stronger team in the second half as our passing and pressing improved. If we can start games with the same level we showed at the end, results will follow.

? Player of the Match β Arlo
An excellent performance. Arlo read the game superbly, made numerous interceptions, won most of his duels, and used the ball calmly and confidently. A disciplined and composed display β very well done.
? Goals: Sam (2), Raff
?? Assists: Seth, Billy, Albie
The boys should feel proud of the progress shown, especially in how the game finished. Weβll keep building on shape and teamwork.
Thanks again to Sam for helping today and at training on Friday.
See you all at training on Tuesday.
