8th December 10:30am Match Report - Bransgore 6-1 Bmth Sports

After a difficult result and disappointing performance last weekend it was important we got back to winning ways. This was also our last opportunity to get a home win in 2019 after our 4 previous outings ending in 2 draws (1-1) and 2 close losses (0-1).

Everybody arrived there very early this morning (??) but it turned out to be effective as all the boys were great in the warm up and also were having fun together and they continue to build a strong team ethic!

Myself and Mark discussed tactics prior to the game and the decision was made to slightly change our formation to 1-1-3-1. Harry playing a central alone role at the back with Frankie slightly ahead of him. Brook on the left, Finnley on the right and Charles supporting Harvey up front. This was to give Harvey the support at times we feel we have been lacking when we break, and also to take the focus off Harvey from the defenders, hopeful that this would free him up. We had Jack ready to go on the bench with Charlie making his 2nd competitive appearance with us.

We started extremely well and looked sharp, the energy the boys showed in shutting down Bmth Sports early on was infectious and both Harry and Frankie hit some early big tackles and gave them no room to turn, which of late is just what I have wanted from them.

We had a few half chances and although Bmth Sports started to play some good stuff, but we managed to shut them out before they could really test Caleb.

On 12 minutes we made our first change and bought Jack on for Charles with Jack playing on the right hand side and Finnley playing behind Harvey.

We eventually got our breakthrough on 16 minutes when Harry recovered the ball after a set piece and then turned 1 of their players and struck a powerful shot across the goalkeeper. Hazza celebrated and was followed by all of the boys back into his own half sliding on his knees. 1-0!!!

Jack then got in on the action and got his 1st of the game. I must say at this point that Jack was absolutely on it today and he was very quick in the breakdown, and when the ball was bouncing in the area he was the first to pounce and fired the ball home on 17 minutes to make it 2-0.

We we’re on top at this point and looked like we may run away with the game however it came as a bit of a surprise on 20 minutes when their substitute turned and shot from 15 yards looping the ball high in the bright sunshine and over Caleb (who rarely gets lobbed), the ball struck the underside of the bar and nestled in the net, 2-1!! “Game on” was heard from their manager.

We then piled on the pressure and played some great football from Harry all the way to Harvey, also with Brooklyn deserving of a mention at this point for his work rate and relentless runs up and down the flank, quite often starting our attacks out of absolutely nothing. It really is a site to see him sprinting down the wing and leaving their full backs in his wake!

Our pressure paid off with winning another corner after Finnley was tackled well whilst shooting on the right hand side when through on goal. Frankie took the corner and got his 8th assist of the season with Harvey volleying the ball home on 24 minutes.

Half Time 3-1

The boys were very happy to be 3-1 up at half time but I remembered some of the best advice that was given to me that despite the score we must create the mentality that it’s 0-0 and we not only want to win the 2nd half, but we do not want to concede. It took 3/4 explanations of this until they seemed to get it, but its definitely something they took into the start of the second half and they continued to apply the pressure straight away when the whistle went.

We bought Charles back on and took Finnley off. At this point we also went back to a 2-3-1 formation to tighten up the defence. Jack very quickly got his second of the match when again he was in the right place at the right time to make it 4-1 on 26 minutes finishing from close range when the ball was spilled by their goalkeeper.

On 28minutes, Harvey our captain for the day who had been leading the line well and keeping his composure (despite some rough tactics from their CB’s) took a hefty knock on his right shin, just above his shin pad after a coming together with their defender. Play was stopped for a while to check the injury and Harvey was carried off and replaced by Finnley who went into the forward position.

Finnley made the most of this opportunity and got his 1st goal on 35 minutes with a good break and assist by Brooklyn, finishing neatly to make it 5-1.

On 36 minutes we gave Charlie his second appearance with the boys and he started up front, where he had played in our friendly a few weeks back.

Finnley then doubled his goal tally and took his seasons goals to 7 in 10 when he again fished well to make it 6-1 on 45 mins to put the game completely out of Bmth Sports reach.

Caleb had very little work to do today, but what he did do he did very well. However when he was needed to pull off a flying save to his right hand side it was definitely one for the cameras ??

Harry probably had his best game in a Bransgore shirt today. He dominated the game at the back and made some timely interceptions and was tough in the tackle. He has been working on his first touch for hours in the garden and this is definitely paying off. Also the boys gave Harry some good options today and this hugely helped his distribution. Some strong headed clearances today also. MOTM ??

Charles did exactly what we asked of him and put himself about, he also put a couple of brilliantly weighted balls through to Harvey when playing up front with him. So strong in the tackle and he was asked to put their defenders under pressure which he did??

Jack did extremely well today and has really done well the last 3/4 appearances. Brilliantly won the ball back on a number of occasions and also was first to the ball when it went loose. 2 great goals by being the quickest to react ??

Frankie was his usual tank in the centre and defensively supported Harry or Jack. He also helped the team turn from defence to attack very quickly creating some great opportunities. This was helped by getting his head up and playing the easy ball. Also there were a couple of crunching tackles ??

Finnley worked so hard on the wing or wherever we needed him to play today. 2 great goals when he got his chance up front, and also it’s really important to mention his ‘not reacting’ to being pushed and kicked off the ball despite being goaded on a few occasions. Also well done for trainer of the week and listening well in training ??

Brook was also excellent today and attacked the wing on multiple occasions, Brooks ability to go past defenders is great to see and you can see he is getting sharper and sharper the more football he plays. 2 assists for Brook today and he consistently works well in training ??

Charlie played only his second game today and came on up front. He nearly got his first competitive goal when breaking forward but had 2 shots that just agonisingly went wide. Was also great to see him closing people down and battling away ??

Captain Harvey for the day started really well and held the ball up bringing others into play which is something we are trying to help him add to his game. Harvey’s attitude has been excellent lately in games, hence the reason he was given chance to captain the side today. Unfortunately his day ended short, but wishing him a speedy recovery for next week ??

One thing I would like the boys to focus on is to celebrate every goal together and to acknowledge the hard work by others.

Awesome work from them all, Proud Manager, Proud Coach and no doubt proud parents!!

Big week next week!

HOLIDAYS ARE COMING ??????

Up the Gore!!!

We only do positive!!
