Bransgore vs Burton 5th January 10:00am KO

First game back in the new year and we were facing a competitive Burton side that have picked up some good wins of late against Poppies, Poole Town and Highcliffe.

After our 0-3 win on the opening day of the season, myself and Mark knew that this was going to be a tough test, as they would be right up for the game (possibly the manager more than the boys ??).

We had decided to start with a 1-1-3-2 formation and go for it. Jack had suffered a neck injury on the Saturday so was replaced by Harvey who was due his rest week. But I would like to say top effort for still coming along and supporting the boys Jack and Mark ??.

We started with Caleb in goal, Harry the lone Defender centrally and Frankie on the left, Finnley on the right and our Captain for the day Joe in the central midfield position. This left Harvey and Brook up front to form a truly rapid partnership. Charles and Charlie started on the bench.

The pitch was extremely bobbly and the boys started well despite not playing for 3 weeks or more.

From the offset it’s worth briefly mentioning that Adam (Ref) was getting constantly peppered by a manager that sets a really poor example to his Squad and should take a long hard look at himself at how embarrassing his behaviour was. The game was a little physical from the start and despite challenges not being late, there were a couple of tangles of legs that some people may have thought warranted free kicks. Even their parents were appealing for everything, and I must say I massively appreciate all of our parents, in not presenting like that as it really looks ridiculous!

On 3 minutes Finnley was working well on the right and won a tackle were their player fell over causing their Manager to scream for a free kick, “play on” was called and fair play to our boys for playing to the whistle, and Joe broke through and scored to the bottom right hand corner. 1-0!

Against the run of play on 4 minutes, they then went down the left hand side soon after the kick off and their captain shot from a distance which just crept under Caleb. 1-1.

The game was relatively chance free for the next 5 minutes despite some really good work in defence and attack on both wings from Finnley and Brook.

Our next goal came on 10 minutes when a good break led to Joe being in n goal and having a shot which I think was parried by the keeper and Finnley had not given up the chance to slot home one of the easiest finishes he will have. This was Finnley’s 8th goal in the League this year and his 13th in 14 games this season.

We then made some changes and took both Harvey and Brook off and put Charlie up front and Charles left hand side of midfield. Charlie did well to get in the game and used his excellent left foot to go past a couple of players and bring others into play. Charles attacked the ball really well and his timing looked very good. It was good to see these 2 boys come on and instantly get involved. We also slightly changed the formation as we felt the boys looked a little exposed at the back and Joe slotted in with Harry.

Charlie nearly got his first league goal for Bransgore before half time, but will have to wait until his next game for a chance to get on the scoresheet.

At half time things became a bit heated, but we were soon ready to restart and we stressed to the boys to keep their heads under pressure and with the emotion of the game running high.

Harry and Joe both came off after putting in a good shift centrally for the boys. Harvey and Brook returned with Harvey playing central midfield and at this point we also confirmed with the boys the formation, with Frankie and Charles going to the back. Charlie continued to play up front and was doing really well.

We were playing some good football at times and the boys showed some great touches but we didn’t really have any clear cut chances. On about 35 minutes Burton had their best chance to get another goal, the ball was played long and mistimed by our boys and their forward was through..... Caleb stood tall and held his position well making the goal look tiny, Caleb stayed on his feet and their forward struck the ball at Caleb who held on to it brilliantly.

I think overall we dominated, but again without really having clear chances. We defended a few corners well and the boys were doing well in encouraging and organising each other.

On 38 minutes we made another change and bought Joe on for Charlie and Harry on for Harvey. We thought Harvey may have been hurt so bought him off and Mark had a quick chat with him, with a view to getting Harvey back on the pitch and putting the game out of Burtons hands.

We then bought Finnley off who looked shattered after working his socks off all game. Harvey went back on up front.

On 48 minutes we broke through and Joe has a 1:1 with the goal keeper with the ball spilling awkwardly in between the both of them. I held my breath as the keeper came flying in and Joe did not hold back! Crunch!!!! Very brave from their keeper and also from our captain for the day! In the tackle the ball spilled up in the air and flying in was Harvey who slid 2 footed in and put the ball over the net!

The game finished and everybody shook hands. Their boys were visibly upset at losing to us and I think that evidenced how much they built up playing against us, which is testament to the boys in how some teams in the league perceive us.

MOTM was Charles for his timing in the tackle and also his work rate. Mention must also go to Charlie for his first half played and despite looking shattered he appeared to enjoy himself and got the bragging rights against his friend at school.

Individually I also want to mention each of the boys;

Firstly big shout out to Finnley and Brook for their work rate and skills running at players, being a constant headache to their manager ??

Mention to Harry, Charles and Frankie for defending really well and limiting the amount of chances Burton had, possibly only 3 or 4.

Joe captained the side really we’ll and led by example with his tenacity.

Mention to Harvey for not giving up and going back out on the pitch and turning things around and getting that all important goal!

Caleb great save kept us in the lead so well done!

I would also like to say a massive thank you to Adam for continuing to Ref and taking loads of grief for 25 minutes! Nobody can question your fairness as you didn’t even blow your whistle for 20 minutes. We have never had an issue before and that’s important to remember! Cheers

We only do positive!!

Up the Gore ??????
