“Menan’s Plumpton Powered Victory”   The Inter Menan gaffer showed the boys how it’s done tonight with a clinical finish that brought back the glory days of last season in front of goal for the height shy midfielder.   The real action of the day has come at the Menan training ground – Gallows Close as deadline day deals have threatened to wreak havoc on Menan’s title chasing glory.   Tonight’s depleted squad, minus Boro Town big wigs Patterson, Brooksby and Hawkes had the Menanian faithful fearful of last minute transfer dealings going through. TidyStar are rumoured to have made a double swoop for Patterson and Hawkes, tabling a bid in the region of a Wagon Wheel, A crate of fosters and a lucky dip grab bag from Manor Road Stores said to be the offer. The Menanian board held firm with Plumpton quoting after the deadline passing “No chance, I don’t know what Tidy are thinking about, I would never let those boys leave for that, I’d expect at least Jammie Wagonwheels!!!!”.   The Boro town boys are set to repay Plumptons faith and return to action next week as the Menanians go back to league action, hot on the heels of TidyStar.   Back to the action and new boy Nikki Williows makes his Menan debut alongside a returning fit and raring to go Gedly “Jimmy Floyd” Ward.   The much changed tangerines got down to cup action knowing their place in the next round was assured before a single ball was kicked, and boy did it show. Some wasteful early finishing from Ward and Walker found the Menanian’s becoming as frustrated as a chained up Glitter outside his local primary as Plumpton bellowed instructions in his unusual Willan role at the back.   Willan found himself getting changed in the early stages, as he had seemingly forgot his P.E kit. Luckily for him and the team he quickly slipped on some child’s shin pads and took to the field in his casual dung’s.   Dorey created a piece of magic in the centre leaving Walker with only the goalie to beat and once again the Menanian’s came up short as the keeper found himself throwing his cap on the 3 time appeared Menanian’s worm burner of a strike.   Tony Ross was in fine form at the rear with some quick restarts. Ross was an early doubt for the game after returning from last nights X-Factor Auditions in which he woo’d the judges with his version of “The Music man”. Cheryl Cole was in tears, Minogue melted like the polar ice caps and Loui Walsh was petting his trouser snake over our Goal Tending number ones performance.   As this match report is clearly showing, there wasn’t much action on the pitch, with the game petering out into some what of a stalemate, the only other moment of note saw Dorey follow suit with some poor goal busting efforts.   Half time Neil – Neil   Like the hero Spartacus, Willan took to the field in his casual attire, ready to do battle and turn the game for the better. The large headed stopper had been itching to get on, prowling the touch line and licking the goal post for no apparent reason! Willan was soon in on the action with what can only be described as possibly the worst attempt of an effort on goal after a Gedly Ward set up from distance, high and wide over the bar at the Pindar School end.   The Menanian’s were always on top and were very rarely threatened, it was just a case of nicking a goal to send the crowd home happy and making them feel tonights 25p entry fee was justified…….When suddenly the Dale Power defender dilly dallied on the ball with Walker capitalising with a shrewd block which sent Plumpton racing clear on goal. His lightning pace found him clear of the back line with only the keeper to beat, and with a cool, calm and collected Robbie Fowler style side foot finish the 6 man strong crowd were going as crazy as a Millwall and West ham derby behind the Pindar Road terracing.   The visiting 1st division team lost their nerve and found their discipline sadly lacking as not one, but two players went in the referee’s book for foul and abusive language.   With minutes of the game to go Dale Power were on a rare attack down the left resulting in a high long cross towards Tony “X-Factor” Ross’s goal. Debutant Nikki Williows lost all bearings and through himself 6 foot into the area like a leaping salmon on redbull, the Menanians held their breath and heard the Marshall’s whistle, their heads sank as they feared Penalty.   A quite extraordinary event then took place, Williows on his knees seemingly prayed to his god and hero “Tony Hibbert”. A beam of light shone from above and Marshall waved goalies ball and explained to a bemused both sides how Dale Power had entered the area and not Williows! A truly great moment and one which saved the points and sent them home victorious with thanks to Williow’s religious side and Plumpton’s fox in the box credentials.   The Man of the Match jury were tied this evening on a 3 way split between, Tony Ross, Jack Willan and Mark Plumpton. After much debate in the ESPN studio between Keegan, Barnes and Fashanu - Plumpton was awarded with the non alcoholic champers, on the grounds he had – played a full game, worked his cotton socks off, scored the winner and is the writer of this report and quite frankly deserved it!!!!
