Gigantors downed by Menan
In a football mundial first, THE TITANS came up against current pace setters and our local heroes Inter Menan, in what proved to be a clash of epic proportions in more ways than one!

The Gigantors dwarfed the Menanians in the pre match national anthem (Apart from Bambi) and had many pundits ticking the box of a Titan victory and Menan’s downfall, this was not the case however…..
With such a mammoth build up in the press the crowd turned out in their droves all wearing their beloved TITAN’s red attire. The usual songs and chants to back their heroes were never heard as the Menanians passed the ball around with somewhat of a swagger and bossed the game from the off.

Luckily for THE TITANS they had a top draw keeper to keep the score below double figures as he produced save after save. In truth he was head and shoulders above his counterparts making him even taller than Jack (From Jack and the Beanstalk), which resulted in numerous fingertip saves and blocks with his gym enhanced body.
Early saves came from Patterson (x2), Ward and Dorrey, who also missed from point blank range putting over the bar when maybe he should have done better and settled the nerves and silence the crowd completely. The noise from the Pindar road end was of “Menan aren’t a great side, and we will do em”, something which maybe they wish they had kept behind their stella drinking lips as Ward pounced on a loose ball and drove at the TITAN’s back 4. As one Gigantor approached he once again showed his killer instinct with a delightful ball finding the onrushing Willan on the right wing (what he was doing there I will never know). After a touch onto his wand like left foot he unleashed the beast with a stinging dipping dive that the HUGE keeper could not even get near, Willan had opened the scoring and his account for the campaign in sensational style.

This rocked the Gigantors asif someone had taken away their team gym membership and Brooksby pounced like a fat kid getting the last double cheeseburger as he nipped in straight from kick off and made it 2 – Neil in a matter of seconds.

The second half began with Menan taking it to the max; their superior fitness which was admittedly like Jan Molby doing a 10k biathlon for charity began to tell as they zipped the ball around, Ping, Ping, Ping.

Willan was excelling at the back, more than a match for his vastly stockier but strangely not quite as heavy opponent, local pundit Mitch Crook put this down to the weight of the Menanian’s incredibly sturdy and weighty noggin.

THE TITANS did threaten just after the half way point of the 2nd half with Joe Cairns leaving Patterson in his wake before dribbling his worm burner of a shot into the grasp of the grateful Bamblefish in the Menan pokey.

This spurred our heroes on and made some of the lesser fit members find a 13th Wind as Dorrey knocked the ball into Patterson who in turn found the jinky long haired Brooksby. Brooksby was one on one with his Boro Town team mate gigantor in the TITANIC net and made sure he came out with MASSIVE results, making the score a comfortable 3-Neil. Plumpton retired to the subs bench for a record braking 3rd time after his injury lay off as it became a game of keep ball, with ‘Oles’ greeting every pass from the Pindar Astro Turf Arena crowd.

One blemish on an otherwise perfect evening was to come as THE TITANS picked up a dubious free kick on the edge of the box, which was fed to the big target man INSIDE the box and he finished in the far corner as all expected a whistle from the drugged up official, which quite astonishingly didn’t come making the score 3-1.

The match officials “Steroids for lesser-men” gave the aftermatch haircut, quite fittingly to Brooksby for a dazzling wing display and some clinical finishing.
