Home league match played on 19 April 2015.
Kicked off at 12:00 PM

The match against Olympic at Bates Drive was an opportunity to build on the previous weeks performance against Marconi. Although the result was not favourable the performance was at a very high level particularly playing away against a quality opposition. A few tweaks to the starting line due to injury saw Jels start at 3 and Maddy move into 2. Speedy also made her first start for the season at 7 being her preferred position. The first 20min of the match was very scrappy with Olympic playing a very narrow condensed style of play which influenced us to do the same. Opportunities were rare for both teams as we cancelled each other out in midfield. They relied heavily on their 9 as she was quite quick and aggressive, and if it was not for some fantastic goalkeeping from Bree they would have gone up 1-0. A through ball that left Anika and Jels stranded put the 9 up against our number 1. Bree remained tall and did not go to ground and whilst the shot was firm Bree’s quick arm reaction was strong enough to push the ball away. That was their only real significant shot on goal for the first half. We also had few significant attempts until a wonderful ball from Kate through to Charlotte in full flight resulted in Sutherland's first goal of the afternoon. The lobbed pass was very difficult to control but Charlotte did it with aplomb and slotted the ball passed the keeper. The focus at half time was to ensure our 2 and 5 brought greater width to allow us to break away from the congestion in midfield. Also the necessity to keep the ball and that going back is always an option particularly when you cannot make a pass forward. Excuse the cliché but it was a game of 2 halves where we had transformed into football team with all the time in the world. The ball was moved across the park with ease, with plenty of width and penetrating runs by Catherine Speedy and Marissa. The second goal passed nonchalantly into the net was Speedys first for the year assisted by Charlotte. Finally the third was struck terrifically by the calm iCarly whom had just hit the crossbar with a ferocious shot. The game was ours the 3 points were ours and the celebrations in the change room were tumultuous. For me the transformation in the second half was exciting and very pleasing. We adapt quickly which is what we need to do to succeed. If things don’t work lets fix it. We must be careful to not be sucked in by another teams style, remember it is our teams personality up against there’s and we are not interested in coming out second. Best on ground for me was Charlotte whom displayed enormous tenacity and fight giving us a goal and assisting in one. Well done!!

Well done girls. Concord Oval here we come!
