Today’s opponents Bushalls had won 2 out of 2 and finished a respectable 4rth in this league last year so would provide us with a stern test. We seemed up for it today after cruelly being denied points in the last game, straight out of the blocks with Sam Adams hitting a decent effort just over, followed by Hardman and Hamm efforts inside the first 5 minutes, these front 3 would continue to cause mayhem all game. Curran who looked intent on making up for Tuesday’s mistake was smashing into early tackles one with his head was either brave or stupid but the resulting free kick was put in with aplomb by the returning Ryan Smith who put it on a plate for Hamm to power a header just wide. Moments after that Smith hit a stunning swerving effort which narrowly went wide, this was followed by another Hamm chance which in fairness he should have been more composed instead he lashed at the chance and it went wide. He soon made amends by playing a superb through ball to Hardman who made no mistake in finishing to deservedly put us 1-0 up. On the restart we pressed Bushalls back, Curran pressuring a lad and making a great challenge the ball found its way to Smith who played it across the field to Adams taking one touch he played it down the line to the ever onrushing Dave Leslie who played a neat ball into the feet of Edge who had the simple job of firing it into the net 2-0….great team goal beautiful to watch. We truly was playing some superb football and it should have been 3 moments later a short corner from Adams to Smith resulted in an inch perfect cross making its way to Easterbrook for a free head but he somehow missed when it looked easier to score. Half Time More of the same please was the simple order and it came 2 minutes after the start of the second half a superb tackle from Easterbrook found Smith with time to pick a pass to Stu Hardman who lobbed the ball over the top and Hamm rifled in a low sweet finish past the keeper to make it 3-0. Bushalls had a chance when their striker showed some quality by getting by Easterbrook but failed to show the same quality in front of goal firing wide. More chances came and went and we never really looked like letting them back into the game and with 20 to go the gamer was won as Leslie once again put it on the plate for Hamm to finish with ease past the keeper 4-0. With Tuesday in mind a number of changes were made Lewy Morgan came on in place of Ryan Smith and Paul Bainbridge in place of Lee Miller for their Debuts, and yours truly entered the fray in place of the tireless Dave Leslie. A little pressure was put on as the subs affected the momentum ever so slightly, a block in the area by Curran Snr stopped a certain goal and a timely interception by Easterbrook stopped another chance but in truth we never looked in trouble. Morgan connected sweetly with a half volley which went wide and Curran Snr had a chance after being found by Curran Jnr inside the box, both efforts going just wide. That’s how it ended all in all a tremendous effort and performance today from all the lads, the front 3 were a constant thorn in the opponents side and considering they had never played as a 3 together before it was a joy to watch, the midfield 3 were all bang on top form and the back 4 where extremely comfortable with the marauding edge the pick at the back scampering up and down and scoring a great goal…well done.
