OAP's feel Menan Wrath
Once again the Menanians rang the changes as Moorhouse made his debut with Ward coming in to replace Brooksby. Inter Menan have now used a staggering 19 players this season which is now a club record.
After a weekend of personal triumph team manager Plumpton lined up alongside hard man Willan in the centre, with Moorhouse proping up the rear and Ward and Dobson forging a partnership made on the greens of the Strongwood.
With the tactical reshuffle in place the boys raised their heads and stretched excitedly as the action got underway by the short sharp whistle of retro umbro wearing ref Bill Jones who was struggling to keep up with play as Menan hero Dobson was constantly offering big money and badgering him to take the kit from his ageing bod after the game.
The Adverset team must of had a combined age of over 400 as they struggled to keep up with the pace and power of the Inter lads as they knocked the ball confidently and with ease around the pitch at an almost training session pace, until Moorhouse received the ball that was.
Dobson was the first to test the prehistoric Adverset keeper with the no 1 coming out trumps on his younger challenger. Then after some more bang tidy passing Plumpton was through on goal, although the angle was quickly becoming tighter than a nuns cludge when suddenly a Ronaldo-esk bit of skill with a sweeping back heel once again drew a save from the Adverset guardian of the net.
After failing at close quarters Willan picked the ball up 20 yards out and drove through the slug like Adverset back line before unleashing a child like worm burning shot on his weaker right foot which sizzled into the bottom right corner sending astro sand into the eyes of the despairing keeper.
Once the deadlock was broken some Adverset oldies quickly began to lose their discipline as well as their dentures with some niggly hacks and verbal abuse to our lads. With the misdemeanors from Adverset more in their minds than the football Ward quickly rolled back the years to his glory days in the Hull under 9's league when he finished as team 4th top scorer as he picked the ball up and beat 2/3 half hearted challenged before finishing like a dream giving the keeper no chance. A tremendous finish by Ward who was excelling in his new role as target man.
Dobson then got in on the act, firstly finishing after more good work from strike partner Ward, then taking a inch perfect through ball from midfield workhorse Plumpton who knew Dobson, like Parcel Force would always deliver the goods! Two goals in 3 minutes for our striking ace almost certainly cementing his status as golden boot winner. Surely with Horncastles money issues and addiction to ladies of the night nobody could catch him now???
Half time Inter Menan (4) - Adverset (Neil)
The second half brought some incredibly poor play from our Menanian soldiers of war with over hit through balls (Moorhouse), wasted passing opportunites (Dobson) and most noteably some Ade Akinbiyi style finishing by Willan, Dobson and Ward.
Finally after 5 minutes of the second half we saw some real quality. Ward and Dobson taking the place of Beckham and Scholes respectively, as Dobson swung an incredible ferocious drive toward the Adverset goal. The onlooking Royal oak players gasped for air in shock and looked on expectant for the net to buldge like Dobsons trouser snake after his recent Saturday night out only for the Peter Shilton like Adverset keeper to pull off a save any keeper would be proud of.
Once again Plumpton was left to bail his team out after a poor second half display. Bambi hurled out a monster throw, target man Ward showed another Bergkamp like flick to Plumpton on the left wing. The hopeless and tired Adverset defender dived in to hear the call of megs confront him as the ball slipped through his legs on his path to goal. One on One with the Adverset man of the match Plumpton knew this was a battle of wits, with nerves of steel needed as he made his approach swiftly. With a fake of the right boot the keeper dived leaving our hero to dink the ball over him like Shola Ameobi would almost certainly do in the same situation. A masterclass shown to Dobson was produced as Plumpton wheeled away celebrating his career high 9th goal of the season which will surely be never repeated again.
The man of the match sponsers were all together on this one as Plumpton was named hero of the hour and had this to say to our touchline reporter Barry Chuckle "I would like to dedicate this goal to Joe Kinnear and wish him a speedy recovery from his triple heart bypass and let him know all the Menanian players apart from Bambi whos a smoggy B*stard wishes him a speedy recovery to the Toon hotseat".
Next week sees our boys back in league action and looking to take their straight victorys record to double figures! Standing in their way is a Royal Oak side who are themselves having their best season for years with Osguthorpe excelling along with new recruits Carter and big arms Stubbings at the back.
