Apologies for brief and somewhat missing report this is due to a number of factors.
Back to league action and back to the dreaded midweek fixtures, Facing Victoria Colts a much needed 3 points was needed.
From the off our bobbly home pitch looked to even things up as we struggled to get a grip on proceedings, but when we did try and play chances came, James Thomas was the first with an opportunity but their tall keeper came out and made an impressive stop, moments later Curran found himself through on goal after a great Thomas pass but once again their keeper made an excellent stop.
We wasn’t playing well as too many times we rushed and forced proceedings and wasted possession but still chances came a Matty Smith astute pass was met by his partner Thomas but once again the keeper somehow clawed the ball over, this was James Thomas last piece of the action as a tight hamstring issue forced him off on came Michael Neish with a point to prove and he was soon in the action as a Sean Phillips superb cross was met by Neishy’s head only to see it cannon off the bar.
Right before half time we got a deserved goal as Matty Smith played in a great ball down the channel to Michael Neish who fired a great effort in the bottom corner 1-0.
Jason McLaughlin had to be alert in the early moments coming off his line making a brave save, then after a great Sean Phillips run Neishy found his way in the box and looking destined to make it 2 his scuffed shot agonizingly went wide.
Moments later Ryan Smith after a great piece of footwork in the middle was through one on one but once again their keeper who was having a terrific game came out and smothered Ryan’s effort.
A host of substitution’s as Matthew Easterbrook and Tom Briggs gave way to Leslie and Philly Lennon, then shortly after Rose and Coulls entered in place of Lennon who had took a strain to his back and couldn’t continue and Matty Smith.
The next 25 minutes or so I missed as I was too busy trying to get the match ball which was stuck in the infamous tree behind the goal, nearly decapitating my head in the process, but I made it back around just in time to see Adam Coulls finish a great move by rifling a terrific finish into the top corner from the edge of the box after a great cross from Neish he swivelled and hit an excellent effort which left the keeper stranded to his spot 2-0 and game over, that’s 6 in 5 games for Coulls who is on a streak in front of goal lately.
Victoria Colts as they did in the first half caused us problems but the second half was a much improvement as we had to dig in and all the lads on the pitch gave their all and fought to the very end for a massive 3 points.
There were only a few in my opinion who had decent games today, all the men on the pitch gave their all don’t get me wrong but too many were under their normal standard, Michael Neish in a massive change of attitude from last week was superb, Lee O’Donnell played well and kept things tight Ryan Smith after an indifferent first half played well in the second, one player let us down today and could of cost us big time, today needs to be a lesson learnt by him.
