Home friendly match played on 20 September 2020.
Kicked off at 11:00 AM

With Heanor having to cancel for Covid reasons, at last minute Brendan managed to arrange a friendly against a very good side in Tutbury who play in division 1 of the Burton league so although it was clearly going to be a test, we were confident we needn’t be scared of anyone.

Unfortunately 2 of our key players in Barlow and Kailem were no longer available which would make the task even more difficult but we now have a team of great depth so Brendan and I weren’t concerned.

As the game kicked off, as is becoming the norm.... we were in control and it wasn’t long until we were in the lead. A lovely through ball from Jayden who is absolutely on fire at the minute to our other in form player Karsen, meant only one thing..... 1-0 to chellaston.

After peppering the oppositions box we had a player brought down in the box and we were awarded a penalty. Up steps Harry L and as Cooly as ever slots the ball into the bottom right hand corner to make it 2-0. A great penalty and great to see Harry on the scoresheet.

The game was a pleasure to watch with two good teams cancelling each other out and both having chances. Our defence were a credit to us blocking chance after chance Tutbury were having. The difference between the two teams was looking like the fact that we were taking our chances and Tutbury weren’t. After significant pressure in our box we then went on the break and no one could stop the speed and power of karsen and Jayden so when karsen threaded the ball through it was clear where it was going, straight in the back of the net with Jayden once again on the score sheet. 3-0 to chellaston and that is how the first half would end.

The lads all came off the pitch, some a little battered and bruised, but all clearly pleased with a great performance but we all knew we were Uk against a very good and very fit team so the second half would always be a struggle.

Back onto the pitch and back onto the battleground we would go. A great game of football would unfold although in fairness, Tutbury looked the more composed side so when they scored, no one could really argue 3-1.

Under further pressure, a mistake in the box gave them a penalty. 3-2. We weren’t going to fall at the last hurdle like we did against Duffield would we ??? It was never in doubt, the game would end 3-2 with chellaston the victors.

A fantastic hard fought performance where the score could have gone either way but we battled throughout and in my opinion, deserved the win against a very good side. This team are really starting to work for each other and where once upon a time their heads would have dropped conceding a couple of goals in the second half, this is a new Chellaston, a more mature chellaston, a chellaston that want to win and not just for themselves, but for the team. They were a credit to themselves and their parents again this week and long may it continue.

Special mentions this week go to Will who hasn’t been playing outfield for a long time because of not only the break, but also due to covering for Josh whilst he was self isolating. Will slipped into a new system seamlessly and didn’t put a foot wrong, hopefully this will give him the confidence that sometimes he looks to be lacking. Shay who again battled and fought and played with great composure and passion, Jeevan who could have lost his rag a couple of times but just managed to curb his passion and was rock solid throughout but man of the match this week was an easy decision for both Brendan and I...... and this week it was Ben. Ben slipped into big Harry Bs position like he had played there all his life. An absolutely faultless performance from a great team player that plays wherever asked and always does a great job. Well done Ben, fantastic performance.

This was a great game and a great run out for the lads. Next up is another friendly against Division 1’s Spondon Dynamos on Thursday evening. Every time we put a test infront of the lads they keep on passing with flying colours and I have no reason to believe this Thursday will be any different. Im definitely looking forward to it and I’m sure all the lads will be looking forward to continuing this winning streak !! ??????
