Another cup final tonight against fellow league contenders PSV. Tough decisions had to be made tonight and also through the match unfortunately it is what we have to do if we want to be successful, I can’t apologise for that. We started the game poorly and PSV shape seemed to cause us problems, too much space for their wide men across the middle of the park gave us some difficult moments, Machin and Easterbrook had to be alert to stop an almost certain goal on the line and it was no surprise that with 30 minutes gone PSV got a deserved lead when a simple throw saw their midfielder turn Curran far too easily and rifle an unstoppable shot from all of 30 yards away into the bottom corner 0-1. The last 5 minutes we turned the screw slightly and had some efforts on goal from Hamm and skipper O’Donnell who headed over after a corner. Half time We settled for 5 minutes in the second half while making a change tactically and in shape which would dramatically change the game in our favour. Adam Coulls replaced Rose and a change to 3,5,2. It was almost instantly that the change worked we looked so much comfier in this formation and with the midfield 3 now becoming 5 the gaps that where appearing in the first half were gone. We started to crank the pressure up and Hardman played in Hamm superbly and he made no mistake from close range to equalise the game 1-1. PSV looked shell-shocked and we didn’t stop with the pressure all over the pitch it was so much better, Tackles were flying in we were winning every second ball and the back 3 were dominant Easterbrook winning headers which he had no divine right to win, everything seemed to galvanise the whole team. A Curran corner was put in slightly lower but still in the danger area and Coulls smashed it home to send our support delirious 2-1. Our tails were up, we had more chances but still had to defend superbly whenever PSV obviously had some late pressure, and off a corner we managed to clear our lines well and broke with devastating effect Hardman went on a tremendous run with Curran in tow and with their keeper stranded on half way Curran was chomping on the bit to receive the ball but Hardman continued with his salivating run and unselfishly squared in the box to the onrushing Hamm who slotted in to end the contest 3-1. Double winners!!! A stunning achievement from all the boys and now we must put our entire focus onto winning the league ad securing the Treble which will show the whole of the premier division we mean business next season let’s do it!!! The second half was full of superb performance’s from Hamm and Hardman to Leslie, Curran and the inspired introduction of Coulls, to the workaholic wing backs of Manifold and Adams right down to the colossal defence of Machin, Easterbrook, O’Donnell and Jason in goal. M.O.M today went to Easterbrook who won Header after Header some were he shouldn’t have won but the fight in him made him win them he lead by example in the second half and inspired those around him to follow suit ad it worked!
