Sorry for the late report.
Garnkirk 6 Ashfield Blacks 2 (Anthony, Aaron) Away Friendly Cumbernauld.
We had played Garnkirk at the St Pat’s Festival at Crownpoint and drew 1-1 with them that day. It’s fair to say there was a number of bigger boys that didn’t play that day but played tonight.
Difficult game tonight against a difficult, physical and bigger opposition. I know made that point twice but there was a couple of boys that really didn’t look 10/11 year olds. That aside I felt our boys matched them in pretty much every area of the field. Without giving a blow by blow account on this match report I’ll describe the highlights, we were extremely unlucky tonight, we brought our physical game to the surface tonight which was pleasing to see. Game started pretty even, possession was even I would say we were edging it as we seemed to clear our lines better in defence, but struggled a bit to get through or past their midfield, they seemed to play a 2-4-2 formation we went a 3-3-2 again which worked well against Cambuslang on Sunday. With 20 odd minutes in we had created enough chances to get us in front but we’re unable to convert any into a goal. Against the run of play we lost the 1st goal, the 2nd came pretty quickly afterwards with us rushing to play out from the back they pressed very quickly ball broke and they seized their opportunity to double that score line to 2-0. We took centre and Anthony went on a run beating 1, then 2 then 3 ending up right hand side edge of Garnkirks 18 yard box before rifling a phenomenal strike into the corner of the net to take us to 2-1 what a fantastic individual goal from Anthony. From there we seemed to have the game by the scruff of the neck, we won a free kick edge of their 18 yard box just over towards the left hand side. Young David stepped up and hit a screamer of a strike only to rattle the crossbar, the 4 man wall and keeper beaten only to be denied by the bar, great free kick from David. We created another chance which they cleared off the line, another strike went in from the rebound we hit the post and Anthony hit another effort and their keeper pulled off a Peter the Cat like save, we couldn’t believe the ball didn’t end up in the back of the net. Ref blew for half time.
We started the 2nd half the same way we finished the 1st on the front foot, we had Conlan and Aaron up front, David out on the right got up the wing and drove a low cross which was missed by their 2 defenders broke to Aaron whose sublime 1st touch set himself to look up and place his composed and brilliant finish into the back of the net, 2-2 game on. We seemed to have the momentum at this stage in the game. We won a free kick edge of their box ball flighted in young David sliding in got a great contact on the ball to guide into the net, goal………….referee blew for offside…..we couldn’t believe it, it couldn’t possibly have been offside as David’s run was from an onside position to meet the ball as it entered the box, he basically ran onto the oncoming cross, it was a mistake by the ref for which he apologised for after the final whistle. The boys were gutted, their heads went down and that was the turning point in the game, we fought and dug in the rest of the 2nd half fashioned out a few chances Logan was unlucky with fantastic driving run up the wing and into the box was unlucky with his shot saved by the keeper. They got a couple of lucky goals the break of the ball and I felt 6-2 flattered them a bit and was really not a true reflection of how the game actually panned out.
In summary Robbie, Caiden, Kyle and Zyg all had a great game, defensively we played well, all brave putting their bodies in the way of shots, Caiden and Kyle clearing the ball off the line Robbie making some great saves hats off to those boys. Midfield we need to just work a bit harder, and our forward line we also need a bit more from the boys in these positions, but I thought all the boys gave their all cannot fault their effort. Onto the next. Thanks again to all the parents for travelling through to Cumbernauld and for their support as always it’s appreciated. Thanks Mon the Field ??????
